EU Limits Utilization of Nord Stream Pipeline for Gazprom

The European Commission (EC) decided not to exclude Nord Stream’s pipeline, Opal, from the Third Energy Package at its meeting on 10 March. This will prevent utilisation of the pipeline capacity at 100% capacity. Nord Stream is 51% controlled by Gazprom, while Wintershall Holding and E.On Ruhrgas own 15.5%. Gasunie and GdF Suez own 9% each in the consortium.

Enbridge plans $7 Billion pipeline replacement program

Enbridge announced they have received shipper support for a $7 billion investment in their Canadian and U.S. mainline system running from Edmonton, Alberta to Superior, Wisconsin. The Line 3 Replacement (L3R) Program will complement the existing Line 3 segment replacement program and include all remaining segments of Line 3 between Hardisty, Alberta and Superior. Significant expansion of United State’s largest-volume interstate natural gas pipeline system Transco

Williams Partners L.P. announced that its Transco pipeline system received binding commitments from nine shippers for 100 percent of the 1.7 million dekatherms of firm transportation capacity under its proposed Atlantic Sunrise expansion project. Spectra Energy to expand pipeline systems in New England

Spectra Energy announced the Atlantic Bridge project, a proposed expansion of its Algonquin Gas Transmission and Maritimes & Northeast Pipeline systems, to connect abundant North American natural gas supplies with markets in the New England states and Maritime provinces. China promotes pipeline business opening-up

China has issued a plan to open up its largely monopolized oil and gas pipelines, in a bid to increase the facilities’ efficiency, energy authority said on Monday. The National Energy Administration (NEA) said in the plan that it encourages pipeline operators to open their facilities to each other and to users, including fuel producers, refiners, sellers and other industrial users, when pipelines have extra capacity.
